Frequently asked questions
Why should fashion brands care about climate action?
Given the growing imperative to take an ambitious position on climate action due to the increasing effects of climate change, we all share in the responsibility of reducing carbon emissions across the fashion industry to limit global warming to 1.5°C.
The more partners setting targets across the entire value chain, the more we can help to future-proof the fashion industry and lead the way to a zero-carbon economy. ABOUT YOU Group, ASOS, BOOZT, Selfridges Group and Zalando have come together in this initiative to convene, advocate and support its partners to take the first step in this journey.
Why should climate targets be aligned with science?
Science-based targets provide companies with a clearly defined path to reduce carbon emissions in line with the goals of the Paris Agreement. They show your company how much and how quickly it needs to reduce GHG emissions to prevent the worst impacts of climate change.
The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) has become the global standard for establishing corporate climate pledges. More than 9,000 businesses worldwide now have set approved science-based targets through the initiative, since 2015 (updated October 2025).
What is the benefit for fashion brands to join FASHION LEAP FOR CLIMATE?
Measuring a corporate carbon footprint and developing robust climate targets may seem like a daunting task. The FASHION LEAP FOR CLIMATE learning journey, designed together with Quantis, a leading science-based sustainability consultancy, is designed to make the process easy to understand and implement. It equips brand partners with deep knowledge of science-based targets as well as the necessary know-how to measure a corporate carbon footprint, set climate targets and submit these to the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).

To offer a personalised experience and to allow for a meaningful learning journey, we are currently inviting up to three participants per brand partner to join the platform. We encourage involvement from representatives across different departments – such as Procurement, R&D/Innovation, Sustainability – as target setting requires engagement and buy-in from across the company, but selection of participants is at the discretion of our brand partners.
Is FASHION LEAP FOR CLIMATE sponsored by the SBTi?
While FASHION LEAP FOR CLIMATE is not sponsored by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), the content is periodically reviewed to ensure it is aligned with the latest SBTi guidance and criteria.
Why was FASHION LEAP FOR CLIMATE originally founded
The founding members ABOUT YOU Group, YOOX NET-A-PORTER and Zalando founded FASHION LEAP FOR CLIMATE based on a strong belief in the importance and urgency of aligning the fashion industry and their supply chains with GHG emission reduction trajectories based on the latest climate science.
Each company had committed to climate action by measuring their carbon footprint and setting science-based targets for direct and indirect emissions (Scope 1, 2 and 3) through the Science Based Targets initiative in 2020 and 2021. With the majority of emissions coming from purchased products sold on the retailers’ platforms, the critical part of this work means supporting their brand partners to also set science-based targets by 2025, a commitment which forms part of each retailer’s own Scope 3 SBTs.
The founding members believed that by joining forces through a pre-competitive initiative to address a shared goal in a competition law compliant manner, they could drive large-scale impact to benefit the wider fashion industry. Since FASHION LEAP FOR CLIMATE was founded in 2022, the partnership has expanded to scale up the reach and impact of the initiative and now includes additional retail partners ASOS, BOOZT and Selfridges Group.
What support can I expect from the partner retailers after completing the learning journey?
ABOUT YOU Group, ASOS, BOOZT, Selfridges Group and Zalando are committed to supporting brand partners on their target-setting journey by sharing lessons learned, industry best practices and tailored materials. Brand partners are encouraged to contact their brand relationship managers for further details on available support services.
